SMS Integration
Notifications / SMS Integration

The Statusdashboard SMS integration allows your users or customers to subscribe to SMS alerts, which can be triggered automatically whenever creating or updating events on your status dashboard.  The SMS integration settings can be accessed by navigating to Notifications > SMS and then selecting the Options menu in the upper right.

Activating the SMS Integration

The SMS integration may be enabled/disabled by navigating to Notifications > SMS > Options > Enable/Disable and changing the Enable Event SMS toggle button.  When this option is disabled, the option to broadcast SMS messages when creating or updating events will not be available but new SMS subscriptions will still be processed.  Additionally, if your account has reached the maximum number of allowed SMS messages for the current month, the broadcast SMS option will not be available when managing events.

Enabling SMS Subscriptions

New SMS subscription requests may be enabled/disabled on the status dashboard by navigating to Notifications > SMS > Options > Enable/Disable and changing the Enable SMS Subscriptions toggle button.  When this option is disabled, the SMS subscription option will not be available on any dashboard subscription pages.  Additionally, if your account has reached the maximum number of confirmed SMS subscribers allowed, the SMS subscription option will not be available on any dashboard subscription pages.

If you do not create custom SMS text when creating or updating an event, then the default SMS format will be used:

If you do include custom SMS text when creating or updating an event, then the following format will be used:
[{Company Name}][Incident Alert | Maintenance Notice] {custom SMS text}

Managing SMS Subscriptions

End Users

Subscribe

Navigate to the dashboard, click the Subscribe button on the dashboard page and select the SMS icon.  Enter a valid country code and phone number and select one or more services to subscribe to. We'll send a confirmation SMS with a validation link which when clicked, will confirm the subscriptions. Once confirmed, the phone number will be subscribed to event SMS messages and will receive any relevant alerts that you broadcast when managing events.

Manage Subscriptions

Navigate to the dashboard, click the Manage Subscriptions link in the footer, select the SMS icon and provide a valid country code and phone number. We'll send a validation SMS which will provide access to add and/or delete subscriptions to specific services on the dashboard.

Stop all SMS Messages

Customers can reply to any text message sent from StatusDashboard with the message 'STOP' (no quotes) and we will stop all further SMS notifications from being sent to the phone number we receive the message from.  We will consider this number blocked until we receive further instructions from the phone number.  Any subscriptions for this phone number will remain intact, and notifications can be started again at any time by replying 'START' (no quotes) to any text message sent from StatusDashboard.

StatusDashboard Administrators

Manual Subscribe

Navigate to Notifications > SMS > Options > Subscriber Add.  Any phone numbers added here will be immediately subscribed to the associated services.  Please be aware that these manually added phone numbers can be unsubscribed from alerts through the standard StatusDashboard unsubscribe process by your end users.

Import Subscribers

SMS subscribers can be imported from a Comma Separated Value (CSV) file by navigating to Notifications > SMS > Options > Subscriber Import.  When importing SMS subscribers from a CSV file, all existing SMS subscriptions will be removed and replaced with the entries in the CSV file.  If you have existing SMS subscriptions and are interesting in importing additional subscriptions, it is best to first export your current subscriber list, add the additional entries to the export file, and then use this file to perform the import.  The CSV file must be in the following format and must be a UTF-8 encoded file if it contains non-ASCII characters:

Phone Number,Service Name
+11111111111,service1
+11111111111,service2
+22222222222,service1
+22222222222,service2

Although when exporting the subscriber list there are additional 'Confirmation Status' and 'Blocked' columns present, these columns are not required for the import, and are ignored if present.  All imported subscriber entries are automatically added with confirmation status set to True.

Manage Subscriptions

Navigate to Notifications > Email > Options > Subscriber List.  From here, you may search subscribers, unsubscribe subscribers, confirm unconfirmed subscriptions, delete subscriptions and export the list of email subscribers.

Integration Limits

The StatusDashboard SMS integration has the following subscriber/message limits:

Subscriber Limits

You can review how many confirmed SMS subscribers you have by navigating to Notifications > SMS and viewing the SMS Subscribers information field.

Message Limits

You can review how many SMS messages you have sent in the current month by navigating to Notifications > SMS and viewing the Event SMS Sent (this month) information field.

SMS Delivery Reports

StatusDashboard maintains a record of every SMS message sent including the delivery status (for example, 'sent').  If you would like to review a record of sent SMS messages for your account, you may do so by navigating to Notifications > SMS > Options > Delivery Report.  Once we send an SMS message, if we receive updated information on its delivery status, we will update the appropriate record in our system.  Click on the information icon to view detailed information about the message.
